Steel strand is normally a structure composed of 2, 3 or 7 (1+6) high carbon wires but today can also have 19 wires (1+6+12). This format is more frequently used as structural reinforcement in a wide field of applications where very heavy and continuous loads are present, especially if combined with concrete for the production of pre-stressed beams. The use of such strands, with low relaxation, applies to various fields such as big industrial and civil engineering works (beams and structures in multi-storey buildings, pillars, tenso-structures, docks, river dams, road works, highway barriers and bridges, big tunnels, nuclear power plants, concrete pipes, tie rods, suspension and bracing cables for big span bridges, etc.). To efficiently perform functions of load and reinforcement, these steel strands must have LOW RELAXATION characteristics when subjected to the continuous application of high axial loads (especially if combined with concrete in pre-stressed structures).
Depending on the type of application and use, when a high resistance to environmental and weather agents is required, these strands can be clad with different materials; such as a PVC tube filled with grease, internal impregnation and external film in epoxy resin, heavy galvanized coating (hot) of the single wires composing the strand with zinc or even better zinc-aluminum. To minimize elongation under a continuous load, a tension relief treatment is necessary. It is obtained by placing the wire under a load equivalent to 40 % of its tensile while being heated to a temperature of approx. 400 C with a successive quick cooling. The production lines for LRPC STRAND offered by Eurolls, guarantees a very high efficiency/performance and excellent final product quality based not only upon an extensive technical knowledge but also predicated on our past experiences/knowledge which has resulted in vast success in this field.
