Copper-plating unit ULR (Eurolls)

This unit is designed for copper-plating of steel wire when it exits the dry wiredrawing process. It is especially used in the welding wire production process within the CO2 atmosphere.

The unit is installed at exit side of the wire drawing machine, upstream from the skin-pass and spool winding. This unit consists of two stages: the first degreases the wire, and the second provides for copper plating, final washing and drying. The wire remains a predetermined time in the bath by means of multi-groove return pulleys. The number of grooves allows for the adaption of the process to the required line speed.

The standard configuration (for ensuring the speed 20 m/s) includes:

  • Degreasing stage:

1. Surface washing by abrasive pads in a detergent and hot water solution at 70°C (3 stages with two tanks with heating elements of 6 kW and 3,5 kW and recirculation pumps).

2. Air wipes drying (2 stages).

  • Copper plating and washing stages:

3.Copper plating by immersion in acid baths (CuSO 4 + H 2 SO 4 + H 2 O).

The wire remains immersed for a set period in the bath by means of multi-groove pulleys.

4. Wire rinsing tunnel with high pressure water jets and drying by air wipes (2 stages).
